Jason Isaacs

Jason Isaacs suffered for his art while shooting a new TV show in Scotland as he was forced to film scenes in an icy river in the middle of winter.

The British actor plays an army veteran-turned-detective in new mystery show Case Histories, and he spent five months last year (10) battling the cold while working on the show in Edinburgh.

Isaacs spent his nights in a chilly apartment, which he describes was as "cold as a walk-in meat locker", and during the day he dealt with freezing temperatures on-set - and he recalls one particular scene which left him in agony.

The 47-year-old star spent an hour working in the icy Firth of Forth estuary, and he was c
convinced he was at risk of hypothermia as he filmed in the water.

He tells Scotland's Daily Record, "I felt like my head was being attacked by spikes. I have never known pain like it.

"I was trying to retrieve a 'dead body'. I was in the water for an hour or so, obviously with a wet suit and so on, but when you put your head under water that cold it's true pain.

"What's worse is that it doesn't even look that cold on film. I felt like I was about to meet my maker, but when you look at the film it could be a balmy day in Tenerife (Spain)."
