Jennifer Lawrence admits that she almost turned down the role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games because it was such a 'huge' role.

The actress sent her star rocketing this summer as she took on the role of the heroine in the first of Suzanne Collins' novels to be adapted for the big screen.

Speaking to USA Today the actress said: "It's so huge. It's why I almost didn't take the movie. It's a character that can very easily overpower the rest of my characters.

"I don't want to do something that's kind of similar. I haven't really done that many movies."

The movie was a box office smash and filming on Catching Fire, the second book in the series, is already underway.

As for Lawrence she is back on the big screen this week with Silver Linings Playbook, a movie that has already gone down well on the festival circuit.

Lawrence is being tipped to pick up her second Best Actress Oscar nomination for her central performance alongside Bradley Cooper.
