John Goodman

John Goodman has described Ben Affleck as a 'smart' director.

Goodman is set to return to the big screen in political thriller Argo - which Affleck directs as well as starred in.

It is only the third directorial outing for Affleck but Goodman heaped praise on the star and admits that it was interesting to watch him move back and forth between the two roles.

Speaking to Flicks and Bits the actor said: "The one thing he was, was prepared - and smartly so.

"He really trusts people and he delegates his authority in such a way that he doesn't have to worry about little things because it has been taken care of already. Everything was so richly detailed on Argo.

"That makes our jobs as actors so much easier. Ben Affleck, he's a terrific actor and he already has a great track record as a director. It was interesting to watch him go back and forth between the two.

"He knew exactly what he wanted, but he was flexible and a very generous collaborator, too. He came up with ideas for my character I didn't think of. It was wonderful working with him."

Argo is based on the rescue of six diplomats from Tehran in the late seventies and the outlandish plan they came up with to try and get them home.

Goodman plays Hollywood make-up artist John Chambers in the movie alongside Affleck, Bryan Cranston and Alan Arkin.

Argo is released 7th November.
