Kevin Costner has revealed that he is not afraid to fail.

The actor admits that he doesn't focus on the successes and the failures that he has had throughout his career and is picky about the projects that he wants to work on.

Speaking to Digital Spy the actor said: "I'm not afraid to fail and I'm not overly impressed with success. I've learned that failure doesn't kill you."

"I haven't worked for a really long time because I tend to make movies that aren't sequels, so I'm not exactly in vogue.

"I can make a movie for $6 million (£3.7 million), but most of the time it's going to be around $30 million (£18.6 million) or $40 million (24.8 million) and Hollywood is very leery of movies that cost between $10 million (£6.2 million) and $150 million (£93.1 million).

"I won't make a movie unless I have the ability to do it the way I want, so I hold my breath for a long time.

"At this point in my life, I don't want to make a movie I don't want to make, or one that gets manipulated in a way I don't feel comfortable with."

Costner is back on the big screen later this year with The Company Men, which sees him team up with Ben Affleck and Chris Cooper.

He has also been linked to the new Superman movie.

The Company Men is released 11th March.
