Matt Bellamy has revealed that Muse have been approached by the team behind New Moon to provide a song for the film's soundtrack.

New Moon is the second of the Twilight Saga to get a big screen adaptation and follows Bella Swan and her relationship with vampire Edward Cullen.

Muse returned last week with new album The Resistance, their first record in three years, and it's a song from the album that director Chris Weitz is interested in.

In an interview with MTV the band's frontman said: "I spoke to the director yesterday and he wants the track 'I Belong To You', the sort of vaudeville piano track.

"He wants a rendition of that but the only thing with the new film is they want the songs to be exclusive to the film. So he's asking if I mind doing, or if we mind doing an alternative version of it."

"I think it's alright - if it was one of the main tracks on the album I would never do it. But it's actually one of the weirder tracks on the album. [It's] one of the 'can't believe we got away with it' kind of tracks.

"I think it might be worth giving it a go because it's a track that might not get played live very often one of the obscure tracks off the album so it might give that track some life that it wouldn't have otherwise."

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are back as lovers Edward and Bella while Taylor Lautner reprises his role of Jacob Black.

Michael Sheen and Dakota Fanning are just two new actors that have been added to the cast list. The third book, Eclipse, is currently being filmed as is scheduled for a summer 2010 release.

New Moon is released 20th November.
