Neill Blomkamp

Neill Blomkamp is not in talks to direct The Hobbit.

Earlier this week website TheOneRing, a J.R.R Tolkein fan site hinted that the District 9 filmmaker was the latest name to be added to a list of possible directors to take over the director's chair after the departure of Guillermo Del Toro.

Blomkamp has worked with Peter Jackson in the past, Jackson produced Blomkamp's Oscar nominated sci-fi movie District 9.

However a source at Blomkamp's agency William Morris Endeavor said that he has not been contacted by the film company to direct The Hobbit.

David Yates and Brett Ratner are a couple of the other names who were also believed to be considered but it's though that MGM and Warner Bros are trying to convince Jackson to return to Middle Earth.

Jackson has completed the scripts for the movies and will serve as executive producer when filming finally gets underway but he revealed that commitments elsewhere meant that he couldn't direct the project himself.

The Hobbit Part 1 is tentatively scheduled for release in 2011 but filming is yet to get underway.
