Paul Bettany

Paul Bettany has revealed that he likes moving between independent movies and action films that have a bigger budget.

The actor is back on the big screen later this year with his new movie Priest which reunites him with filmmaker Scott Charles Stewart.

The movie see him take on the role of a priest who disobeys church law to track down the vampires who kidnapped his niece.

Speaking to Collider the actor said: "I love making small independent movies that are character-driven pieces where people sit down and talk a lot but I also like flying around on wires and stabbing vampires."

"I really want to continue to make small movies and big action films because it thrills me and makes me happy to do both."

Bettany leads an all star cast of Cam Gigandet, Karl Urban, Maggie Q and Christopher Plummer.

The movie has been converted into 3D and Bettany is delighted with the results.

"I was so impressed with how dark they had rendered the scenes and I was so impressed with the conversion... suddenly you get that extra punch and I felt so lifted by what I was looking at."

Priest is released 11th May
