Paul Greengrass

Paul Greengrass has been dealt a blow as he battles to bring his Martin Luther King, Jr. biopic to the big screen after Universal studio bosses pulled out of the project.

The Bourne Supremacy filmmaker has been working on Memphis, about the days leading up to King's 1968 assassination, for the past few months and was due to begin shooting later this year (11).

But Universal executives have since withdrawn from the movie over scheduling concerns.

Rumours suggest the decision was also prompted by objections made by representatives from King's estate, who are reportedly unhappy with the plot, which allegedly includes details about the civil rights leader's troubled marriage and heavy drinking.

Greengrass and producer Scott Rudin are now searching for a new investor to back the movie, reports trade paper Daily Variety.

We haven't seen Greengrass in the director's chair since Green Zone last year, which saw him reunite with Matt Damon.
