Peter Mullan

Peter Mullan picked up the top prize at Spain's San Sebastian film festival on Saturday (25Sep10) for his film Neds.

The Trainspotting star was awarded the Golden Shell - the international movie event's highest accolade - for his coming-of-age tale, which is set in 1970s Glasgow.

The film also won its lead star, Scot newcomer Conor McCarron, the trophy for Best Actor.

It is Mullan's second major directorial triumph - his movie The Magdalene Sisters won the Venice film festival's revered Golden Lion award in 2002.

Neds is the first directorial outing for Mullan since the highly successful The Magdalene Sisters back in 2002.

Mullan is back in front of the camera for his latest projects as he is currently filming Steven Spielberg's War Horse.

He has already completed work on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Tyrannosaur, which is directed by Paddy Considine.
