Prometheus

Prometheus

Prometheus has stormed to the top of the UK box office as it took an impressive £6.2 million in it's opening weekend.

Actress Charlize Theron went head to head with herself over the weekend as she starred in both Prometheus and it's box office rival Snow White and the Huntsman.

And the Oscar winner had plenty to celebrate as the Ridley Scot sci-fi epic dominated, despite mixed reviews from the critics.

Snow White and the Huntsman also put in a good £3.5 million performance to open at number two by the end of the weekend - the film grabbed the top spot in the States.

The movie sees her team up with Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth for a re-telling of the popular tale of Snow White.

Men In Black 3 fell two place to number three after just a week at the top spot. However the movie took a further £3 million this weekend.

Avengers Assemble dropped just a single place this week as the film closes in on almost £50 million gross at the UK box office alone.

The film jumped over Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 this week to become the third biggest grossing movie of all time.

The Dictator was down three this week at five while What To Expect When You're Expecting was down two at number six.

Animation movie Top Cat was another new entry at number seven while American Reunion was down two at eight.

The Angel's Share was the fourth and final new entry on the chart this week as it was in at nine and Moonrise Kingdom rounded off the top ten having dropped three places.
