Rhys Ifans

Rhys Ifans believes that Curt Connors aka the Lizard is not a traditional villain.

The British actor is set to play Connors, s doctor who accidentally turns himself into a lizard in The Amazing Spider Man.

The Amazing Spider Man is a reboot of the Marvel franchise and sees Andrew Garfield take over the lead role.

Speaking to Superhero Hype the actor said: "Curt Connors is, for my money, the quintessential foil for Spider-Man, in the sense that he isn't necessarily a villain as such.

"Dr Connors is a man who wants to save the world.

"He's a very good guy, with access to ground-breaking science, and he makes a mistake, which we all do in life at a certain point.

"I think that's the endearing and powerful element to Spider-Man and Curt Connors' relationship. It's completely Jekyll and Hyde."

Ifans has a whole host of projects in the pipeline alongside Spider Man as he has already completed work on Anonymous, Neverland and The Five Year Engagement.

The Amazing Spider Man is released 3rd July 2012.
