Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais doesn't expect to be invited back as the host of the Golden Globe Awards in 2012 after upsetting the organisers of Sunday's (16Jan11) prizegiving with his risque humour.

The Brit has come under fire from critics for going too far with his humour at the event - with Tom Hanks and Robert Downey, Jr. both taking aim at Gervais for his "mean-spirited" comments at the expense of celebrity guests from the stage.

And now the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, who also fired back at the host for comments he made about him during the ceremony, has spoken out about Gervais' jibes.

Phillip Berk tells The Hollywood Reporter, "He definitely crossed the line, and some of the things were totally unacceptable. But that’s Ricky.

"Any of the references to individuals is certainly not something the Hollywood Foreign Press condones."

Berk was introduced onstage by his host after he joked he had to help the Aussie film critic off a toilet and "pop his teeth in".

Trying to laugh off the gag, Berk awkwardly told the audience, "Ricky, next time you want me to help you qualify your movies, go to another guy."

The president of the HFPA is refusing to comment on his plans for next year's Golden Globes host, but Gervais is convinced it won't be him.

He tells USA Today, "I probably won’t be here next year."
