Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has revealed that she did not know that Michael Bay was casting the new female lead when she auditioned for Transformers.

Transformer: Dark Side of the Moon is the third movie in the franchise and will see Huntington-Whiteley replace Megan Fox.

And while the actress thought her audition was 'awful' Bay offered her the lead role.

Speaking to Total Film the actress said: "I went to the casting unaware they were looking for a new female lead.

"We were told it was for a 'nemesis' role and I left thinking I was awful. The next day I was offered the lead!"

Transformer: Dark Side of the Moon sees Michael Bay return to the director's chair while Shia LaBeouf reprises the role of Sam.

Huntington-Whiteley has been cast in the role of Carly and is not the only new face on the cast list as John Malkovich, Franchise McDormand and Patrick Dempsey are also new to the franchise.

Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon is released 1st July.
