Rupert Wyatt has revealed that he does not share James Franco's concerns over new movie The Planet of the Apes.

Franco admitted earlier this summer that this movie may suffer because of some of the criticism that he has faced this year.

Wyatt says he understands Franco's concerns he doesn't believe that the movie will suffer because of his casting.

Speaking at San Diego Comic Con the director said: "I think people are going to see this film, hopefully.

"Those that will go see this film for James Franco will still see the film for James Franco. I totally understand where he's coming from.

"Obviously he took a bit of a knock with the Oscars, but at the end of the day, he's an actor and that's his job."

Planet of the Apes is a new take on an old and popular franchise that sees the movie set in modern day San Francisco.

The film also stars Frieda Pinto, Andy Serkis, Brian Cox and Tom Felton.

The Rise of the Planet of the Apes is released 12th August.
