Judi Dench as M
Sam Mendes has revealed that the relationship between James Bond and M will be explored like never before in new movie Skyfall.
Daniel Craig and Judi Dench are set to reprise the characters later this year in what will be their third 007 movie together.
And Oscar winning director Mendes has dropped a few hints that this relationship as well as the character of M will be under the spotlight.
Speaking to Collider the filmmaker said: "We've gone further into their relationship... I thought it was a master stroke when they cast Judi (Dench) way back... because the character... became this female figure, there was a maternal aspect to it.
"There was much more complexity in the relationship and I think we've taken that a little further."
"Judi, to me, is one of the great actors of the English-speaking world and so it's a question of... what can we give her that will take her to another level we've never seen her before?"
Bond's relationship with M is put to the test in this latest movie as someone from her past makes an unexpected appearance.
Skyfall will be Dench's seventh outing as M after being cast in the role in GoldenEye back in 1995.
Skyfall is released 26th October.
