Star Trek

Star Trek

Star Trek boldly goes back to the beginning of the forty year old franchise in the new movie and goes straight to the top of the U.S box office.

With an opening weekend gross of $76.5 million Star Trek toppled X-Men Origins: Wolverine after just one week at number one.

However despite overhauling it's blockbuster rival it failed to gross more than the first X-Men spin off in it's opening weekend.

Directed by J.J Abrams Star Trek saw a new, young and sexy cast take over the roles made famous four decades ago with Zachary Qunito and Chris Pine stepping into the shoes of Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine grossed a further $27 million to take the number two spot while Ghost of Girlfriends Past fell one place to three grossing $10.5 million.

Obsessed was down one place from three to four while 17 Again dropped one place to round off the top five.

Next Day Air was the only other new entry at six.
