Comedian Steve Carell is urging movie studio bosses to reconsider making a sequel to Anchorman because he's convinced a second installment will be as good as the original.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, starring Will Ferrell in the title role, was a hit when it was released in 2004, raking in $90 million (£60 million) in revenue on a relatively small budget of $26 million (£17.3 million).

Plans for Anchorman 2 were subsequently announced but the idea was shelved by Paramount executives after they rejected director Adam McKay's $60 million (£40 million) request for funds.

But Carell, who co-starred in the comedy with Ferrell and Paul Rudd, wants Paramount bosses to rethink their decision.

He tells EmpireOnline.com, "I selfishly want to do it again just for the fun of it. And I think it could be as playful and as fun as the original."
