Steve Coogan

Steve Coogan

Steve Coogan was inspired by British rock stars when developing the character of Hades in Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief.

The British funnyman joined an all star cast of Pierce Brosnan, Logan Lerman and Sean Bean in the big screen adaptation of Rick Riordan's novel series.

He told the Press Association: "A little bit of that English rock star thing, that slightly androgynous thing that they have which the Americans can't do but we can. So I wore Cuban heels and strutted a bit."

"I had a feeling of impotence. For me it was about having some fun but you have to try and balance the levity and comedy with maintaining a sense of menace. Did I enjoy it? I got to wear snakeskin trousers, which I wouldn't normally do."

The movie was a critical and commercial success when it was released, going on to make over $226 million at the global box office; easily making back it's 4100 million budget, and made a star of teenager Logan Lerman.

Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief was the first movie for Coogan since returning to the role of Octavius in Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian.

But he will be back on the big screen later this year with The Other Guys and Marmaduke.

Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief is out on DVD now.
