StreetDance 3D fought off tough competition from Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to top the UK box office.

In order to win the Street Dance Championships, a dance crew is forced to work with ballet dancers from the Royal Dance School in exchange for rehearsal space.

Directed by Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini the movie brings together some of the most recognisable dancing talent such as George Sampson, Flawless and Diversity as well as introducing acting stars such as Nichola Burley.

Taking 2.4 million this weekend StreetDance 3D comfortably held of Prince of Persia as it could only manage £1.37 million for second.

Despite the big budget credentials of Prince of Persia the movie has not been met well by the critics and the film almost missed out on second as Robin Hood took £1.36 million this weekend.

The Russell Crowe movie spent just a single week at the top of the UK box office, dropping two places to this week's three.

It was also a two place drop for Iron Man 2 to number four and the movie has now grossed over $522 million worldwide.

There was another new entry in at five in the form of Kite's, which has become India's most international movie.

Four Lions held onto sixth while this week's biggest fallers were A Nightmare On Elm Street and Hot Tub Time Machine, both dropping four places, finishing the weekend at seven and eight.

There was a fourth a final new entry at nine as Nicholas Cage enjoyed a second top ten movie of 2010 with Bad Lieutenant.
