Andy Serkis

Andy Serkis believes that filming on The Hobbit will begin by the end of the year.

The actor is all set to reprise the role of Gollum in Guillermo Del Toro's The Hobbit, which will see Peter Jackson pen the script as well as produce the movie.

There has been much speculation as to when filming on the movie would get under way, Serkis saying earlier this year that it would be May, but it looks like it won't be for a few months yet.

Speaking to Collider the actor said: "That's probably not looking like it's gonna happen until the end of the year-ish, that's the latest I've heard. It's a bit of a movable feast at the moment, really.

"I think it's towards the back-end of this year. I'm really ashamed to say, I'm probably no better off than you are because dates keep changing and all the rest of it."

Despite having held audition for the film there is yet to be an announcement as to who will take on the role of Bilbo Baggins.

Andy Serkis is to return as it Ian McKellan in the role of Gandalf.
