The Proposal

The Proposal

Comedy rules the U.S. box office as Sandra Bullock's new movie The Proposal has knocked The Hangover from the number one spot.

The movie, which sees Sandra Bullock return to the big screen, follows book editor Margaret (Bullock) who faces deportation to her native Canada, the quick-thinking exec declares that she's actually engaged to her unsuspecting put-upon assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds), who she's tormented for years.

The film grossed over $34 million in it's opening week and ended the two week reign of The Hanover, which has been the surprise of the year at the box office so far.

Up slipped one place to number three while a third comedy Year One, which sees Jack Black team up with Michael Cera, was the only other new entry at number four.

Denzel Washington and John Travolta's thriller The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 fell two places to round off the top five.

But the big fallers of the week were Land of the Lost, which continues to disappoint, as it dropped three places from five to eight but it was a four place drop for Terminator Salvation from six to ten.
