The Proposal Tops Aussie Box Office

The Proposal enjoys further box office success this week as it overhauls The Hangover in Australia.

However it was a very tight affair as Sandra Bullock's romantic comedy grossed almost $3.5 million in the opening weekend compared to The Hangover's $3.2 million.

It's a triumphant return to the big screen for Bullock, having not made a movie since 2007's Premonition. She does have two further releases, in the form of All About Steve and The Blind Side, later this year.

The Hangover has been the surprise package at the box office this summer also topping the charts in American and the UK.

But comedy rules supreme down-under this weekend as Jack Black's Year One was a new entry at number three.

Terminator Salvation fell tow places from two to four while Land of the Lost also fell two from three to five to round off the top five.

I Love You, Man was the biggest faller this week dropping four places from five to nine.
