Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has stormed to the top of the U.S. box office as it grossed over $200 million in it's opening weekend.

Michael Bay's sequel to the 2007 movie narrowly missed out on The Dark Knight's opening record as fans, despite the movie's mixed reviews, flocked to the cinema.

The battle for Earth has ended but the battle for the universe has just begun. After returning to Cybertron, Starscream assumes command of the Decepticons, and has decided to return to Earth with force.

The Autobots believing that peace was possible finds out that Megatron's dead body has been stolen from the US Military by Skorpinox and revives him using his own spark.

The Proposal had to settle for the number two spot after just a one week reign but was a very distant second with an $18.4 million gross.

Both The Hangover and Up fell one place to three and four respectfully.

The only other new entry inside the top ten this week was My Sister's Keeper, starring Cameron Diaz, which opened at number five.

This week's biggest faller was Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian which dropped three places from six to nine.

Away We Go, the new movie from Sam Mendes, climbed three places to re-enter the top ten at  number ten.
