Tyrese Gibson has revealed that he would love Steven Spielberg to take over the Transformers franchise.

[If] Michael Bay decides to not come back for Transformers 4, there is always Steven Spielberg

It is widely believed that Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the third film in the series, will be the last for director Michael Bay but Gibson hopes that the franchise will live on.

Spielberg has acted as producer on Dark of the Moon and Gibson hopes that the director will move behind the camera.

Speaking to Movie Web the actor said: "[If] Michael Bay decides to not come back for Transformers 4, there is always Steven Spielberg.

"I am not saying that Steven Spielberg is for a fact going to direct Transformers 4. But it is a beautiful safety net to know that one of the biggest, most respected directors in the world happens to be an executive producer on Transformers."

"[Spielberg] is someone who knows this world. And he could easily step in and direct Transformers 4 if he decided to."

Transformers:Dark of the Moon is set to hit the big screen later this summer as sees Gibson reprise the role of Robert Epps alongside Shia LaBeouf and Josh Duhamel - who are also back.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon is released 29th June.
