Pixar's Up held onto the top spot in America this weekend fighting off competition from The Hangover and Land of the Lost.

Up, coming of age story about Carl Fredricksen who has spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and experiencing life to its fullest, grossed a further $44.2 million to narrowly hold onto the top spot.

Comedy The Hangover was a new entry at number two as it easily saw off the competition from Will Ferrell's Land of the Lost.

Land of the Lost, an adaptation of the hit seventies TV show put in a disappointing performance, grossing just $19.5 million, to take third. It would seem that Ferrell's domination over the box office is now at an end.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian fell two places to number four while Star Trek rounded off the top five.

The only other new entry inside the top ten was My Life in Ruins, which sees a return to the big screen for actress Nia Vardalos.
