Yogi bear has taken the top spot at the Australian box office this weekend, seeing off last week’s number one Tangled.

It was a close battle at the top of the box office but Yogi Bear, which has been brought to the big screen for the first time, saw off the competition from the latest Disney movie.

The movie follows a documentary filmmaker travels to Jellystone Park to shoot a project and soon crosses paths with Yogi Bear, his sidekick Boo-Boo, and Ranger Smith.

Yogi Bear, which boasts a voice cast of Dan Aykroyd, Justin Timberlake and Anna Faris took in excess of $3.8 million to hold off the competition from Tangled.

Tangled had to settle for second as it took $3.3 million this weekend while Burlesque was another new entry in at three.

Burlesque is the big screen debut for Christina Aguilera - she is joined by Cher and Stanley Tucci.

The King’s Speech stayed at number four while The Dilemma, the new movie from Vince Vaughn and director Ron Howard was new at five.

Unstoppable is down three at six and Little Fockers is the biggest faller this week as it dropped five places from two to seven.

Gulliver’s Travels is also down as is dropped two places to eight while Morning Glory dropped four from five to nine.

Johnny Depp’s latest movie The Tourist rounded off the top ten at ten having dropped two spots from last week’s number eight.
