Adam Driver

Adam Driver is believed to be nearing a deal to star as the villain in Star Wars: Episode VII.

Driver has been linked - like so many other actors - to a role in the latest instalment of the popular franchise.

However, Variety have reported that he became the favourite to play the film's villain, and is now very close to signing on the dotted line.

It seems that he may have seen off competition from the likes of Hugo Weaving and Michael Fassbender, who were also linked to a possible villain role.

Star Wars: Episode VII is already one of the most anticipated films of next year, as J.J. Abrams returns to the director's chair.

While there have been lots of casting rumours, we are yet to see one actors name announced on the cast list.

Driver, Fassbender and Weaving are just some of the names that have been flying around in recent months: the likes of Saoirse Ronan, Simon Pegg, Benedict Cumberbatch and Ryan Gosling have all been linked with the project.

There has also been talk that we will also be seeing Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher reprise their roles from the original trilogy - that also has not been confirmed.

Filming is set to get underway later this year.
