Alec Baldwin is believed to be talks to appear in Mission: Impossible 5.

According to Deadline, Baldwin is being lined up to play the head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the new film.

Mission: Impossible 5 is the first film in the franchise since Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol back in 2011, and will see Tom Cruise reprise the role of Ethan Hunt.

Mission: Impossible 5 will see Christopher McQuarrie in the director's chair: he will reunite with Cruise for the first time since Jack Reacher.

Cruise is currently the only official member of the cast. Jessica Chastain is believed to have turned down the central female role.

As for Baldwin, we haven't seen him on the big screen since Blue Jasmine last year, but he has completed work on Torrente 5, Still Alice, as well as projects for Warren Beatty and Cameron Crowe.

The busy actor is also being considered for a role in Will Smith's new movie about concussions in American football and is developing a brand new TV show that he is to star in and produce.

Mission: Impossible 5 is set for a 26th December, 2015.
