McBride is one of the big new additions to the film, which is a sequel to 2012 film Prometheus, as he teams up with filmmaker Ridley Scott for the first time.

The actor admits that he didn't know what to expect when filming the special effects but he reveals that you 'don't have to use your imagination.'

Speaking to Rolling Stone about working on the film, McBride said: "I didn't know if it would be all green screen, but most of the stuff is practical effects: when you're running from an alien, it's really a dude in an alien suit coming after you! 2

"The sets are incredible and you're in them: we go through some inclement weather at one point on the spaceship and this whole gigantic set is on a gimbal, shaking up and down. You don't have to use your imagination."

McBride also revealed a little about his character - although we still don't know the character's name.

He continued: "I'm the pilot of the spaceship Covenant, which is a colonization ship, searching for a planet where we might start life anew. I run the ship."

The movie sees Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender reprise their roles as Elizabeth Shaw and David. They are joined on the cast list by Billy Crudup, Katherine Waterston, and Carmen Ejogo.

The movie is set ten years after the events of Prometheus and will follow the crew of the colony ship Covenant, which touches down on a dark world that is inhabited by David.

Alien: Covenant is the first film for Scott since the huge success of The Martian last year and it is always great to see him return to the sci-fi genre.

Alien: Covenant is one of two Alien movies in the pipeline as Neill Blomkamp is at the helm of Alien 5, which should see Sigourney Weaver reprise the role of Ripley.

Alien: Covenant has a U.S. release date of 4th August 2017. No UK release date has yet been announced.
