Holland is set to take over the role of Peter Parker from Garfield as a new solo movie from Marvel will hit the big screen in the next couple of years.

And Garfield, who took on the role of Spider-Man twice, admits he is thrilled at the prospect of being a fan of the character again.

Speaking to ET Online, the actor said: "It feels lovely, especially because Tom Holland is a really, really great actor.

"He was in this movie, The Impossible, and he was just this incredibly powerful, sensitive, just wonderful young actor. And [he's] a dancer, so his body's the right [form].

"I'm just really excited to be a fan again as opposed to bearing the weight of it."

We are going to see Holland make his first appearance as Peter Parker next year in Captain America: Civil War alongside Chris Evans, Scarlet Johansson, and Robert Downey Jr. He will make his first appearance in a solo movie in the summer of 2017.

As for Garfield, we haven't seen Garfield on the big screen since The Amazing Spider-Man 2 back in 2014, but he is set to return this September with 99 Homes.

The movie, which has been plying on the festival circuit, will see Ramin Bahrani in the director's chair, while Garfield is joined on the cast list by Michael Shannon and Laura Dern.

Garfield has also completed working on Silence, which will be the next film from director Martin Scorsese and is based on the novel by Shûsaku Endô, Liam Neeson and Adam Driver are also set to be on the cast list.
