Though it’s not done very well with the critics and currently sits on 19% with over 100 reviews on reviews aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes, Baywatch will indeed get a sequel if producer Beau Flynn’s recent comments in an interview with Variety are anything to go by.

Flynn teased: “We have an amazing story already. We’re bringing back Shannon and Swift who wrote on the first one, and I know Dwayne (Johnson) would be in, I know Zac (Efron) and all the girls would be. We just have this really cool idea to put them in this whole new world. We would take it overseas.”

The “girls” mentioned by Flynn are obviously co-stars Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach and Ilfenesh Hadera who make up half of the ensemble cast involved in the flick.

Though no official green light has been given for the film, it’s looking increasingly likely that it will go ahead, despite the attack on the writing and direction the current movie has taken. When movies make big bucks in Hollywood, it doesn’t really matter to executives if the critics think they’re good or bad. Audiences vote with their pockets, and the future’s looking bright in that regard for the Bay.

Baywatch is available in cinemas in the US now and debuts in UK cinemas on Monday, May 29.
