Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch bulked up for his role in Star Trek Into Darkness.

The British actor is one of the exciting new additions to the cast list as he takes on the role of John Harrison in the latest instalment of the franchise.

And Cumberbatch revealed that he ate 4,000 calories a day as he prepared for the role.

The actor went to talk briefly about his character and the type of person that he is.

Speaking to SFX Cumberbatch said: "He's someone who can plant an idea that's as vicious as a bomb and explode loyalties and expose relationships and try and turn people against one another to do his bidding.

There is still some mystery surrounding the role of John Harrison as he is not a character who appeared in the original series.

Star Trek Into Darkness is the biggest movie role of Cumberbatch's career to date and it kicks off a string of high profile movie roles for the actor.

He has already completed work on August: Osage Country, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and Twelve Years A Slave.

He is currently filming The Fifth Estate where he is playing Julian Assange.

Star Trek Into Darkness is released 9th May.
