Benedict Cumberbatch has landed a role in new thriller Blood Mountain.

The movie will see Sergei Bodrov and Lawrence Bender team up in the director's chair, while James Gibb and Nicola Horlick will produce.

Cumberbatch is the first actor to be linked to the film, after Variety reported his involvement.

The movie follows a private military contractor whose special forces team is ambushed and killed during a raid in Pakistan leaving him to bring one of the world's most wanted terrorists to justice.

Cumberbatch could be set to play the military contractor, but that is yet to be confirmed.

Filming for 'Blood Mountain' is expected to start in April 2014 in Morocco, Africa.

2014 has already been a busy year for the actor as we have seen him in 12 Years A Slave and August: Osage County.

The actor also returned to the small screen to reprise the role of Sherlock Holmes in the hit BBC TV series.

Cumberbatch has also completed work on The Imitation Game - where he will play Alan Turing - and The Hobbit: There And Back Again.
