Billy Connolly

Billy Connolly

Billy Connolly has landed a part in The Hobbit.

The Scottish funnyman is set to take on the role of Dain Ironfoot in the Peter Jackson directed movie.

In a statement Jackson said: "We could not think of a more fitting actor to play Dain Ironfoot, the staunchest and toughest of dwarves, than Billy Connolly, the Big Yin himself.

"With Billy stepping into this role, the cast of 'The Hobbit' is now complete. We can't wait to see him on the battlefield."

Connolly joins an all star cast as Martin Freeman, Ian McKellan and Andy Serkis are all on board.

While McKellan and Serkis reprise the roles of Gandalf and Gollum we will be introduced to Freeman's Bilbo Baggins for the first time.

The movie is set to be split into two parts and filming is underway in New Zealand.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released 14th December.
