Billy Crystal

Billy Crystal says he was excited to work on Monsters University because going back 'opened up more possibilities'.

Crystal has lent his voice, once again, to the character of Mike as he attends university to become a scarer.

And the actor admits he was glad that the sequel didn't do the obvious and follow the character of Boo.

Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "I was excited because it opened up more possibilities. Most people expected us to follow Boo, they wanted to see little Boo again but that was too obvious.

"Peter Pan went back to find Wendy and she was 45 and having hot flashes and that wasn't good.

"This gave us new possibilities of who these guys were, we could create a new life for them."

It was back in 2001 when we were introduced to the characters of Mike and Sulley for the first time and we have had to wait twelve years for the sequel.

Dan Scanlon is on the director's chair this time around while John Goodman, Steve Buscemi and Helen Mirren have all lent their voices to the film.

Monsters University is released 12th July.
