Birdman was one of the most talked about movies at the Venice International Film Festival, and now Fox Searchlight has released a brand new poster for the film.

Birdman opened the festival earlier this month - where it competed for the Golden Lion - and was met with rave reviews. The Oscars may still be some time off, but Birdman is already being tipped as a possible contender.

The film sees Alejandro González Iñárritu back in the director’s chair - he has also had a hand in penning the screenplay. Iñárritu has been behind movies such as 21 Grams and Babel, but this will be his first live action feature film since Biutiful back in 2010.

Michael Keaton is set to take on the central role of Riggan Thomson, and is joined on the cast list by Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Edward Norton, Zach Galifianakis, Andrea Riseborough, and Amy Ryan: it really is one of the best ensemble casts of early 2015.

Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance is a black comedy that tells the story of an actor (Keaton) - famous for portraying an iconic superhero - as he struggles to mount a Broadway play.

In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego and attempts to recover his family, his career, and himself.

Birdman is already one of the must see movies of 2015, and it looks like it is going to be a major player when the awards season gets underway.

Birdman is released 2nd January 2015.
