There has been a lot of question flying around about who is going to land the role of Captain Marvel. The search for Carol Danvers is under way and Brie Larson looks to be an early favourite.

Variety has reported that Larson, who won the Best Actress Oscar earlier this year for her stunning performance in Room, is in early talks with the studio about the project.

Captain Marvel will be the first female solo film for Marvel but it is not scheduled to hit the big screen until early 2019.

At the moment, there is no director attached to the project but Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman have been brought on board to pen the film's screenplay.

While fans have been speculating who may land this role, Larson is the first actress who has been linked to the upcoming movie. Katee Sackhoff, Natalie Dormer, Emily Blunt, and Jennifer Lawrence are just some of the names that have been banded around by fans.

As for Larson, 2016 has been a major breakthrough year for her as her performance in Room was the toast of Hollywood, which saw her dominate the awards season.

The actress had been making a name for herself in the last couple of years with performances in the likes of Short Term 12, The Gambler, and Trainwreck.

She is set to step into the blockbuster for the first time next year as she teams up with Tom Hiddleston in Kong: Skull Island. Jordan Vogt-Roberts is in the director's chair while Toby Kebbell, Samuel L. Jackson, John C. Reilly and John Goodman are some of the other names on board.

Larson has also completed work on Basmati Blues and Free Fire and is currently filming The Glass Castle.

The Glass Castle is an adaptation of the memoir by Jeannette Walls and sees Naomi Watts and Woody Harrelson also on the cast list. The movie will see Larson reunite with Short Term 12 filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton.
