Singer, who is set to return to the director's chair next year with X-Men: Apocalypse, has revealed that 'ideas are in play' to potentially bring the two franchises together.

We are going to see the Fantastic Four back on the big screen in August as director Josh Trank is putting his stamp on this popular group of superheroes.

When asked about bringing the two franchises together by Yahoo UK, the director said: "Those ideas are in play... That would be a natural match-up because they're both ensemble films and there is a natural mechanism by which to do it... It deals with time. That's all I'm going to say."

Marvel Studios has already created a complex universe that is packed with interesting films and characters - we are going to see Warner Bros do the same next year with DC projects Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.

Now it looks like Fox are getting in on the action having enjoyed huge critical and commercial success last year with X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The Fantastic Four will be looking to continue that success next month, while X-Men: Apocalypse is already one of the most anticipated films of 2016.

Singer returned to the X-Men universe last year with Days of Future Past - which is one of the best films in the X-Men series - and is at the helm of X-Men: Apocalypse.

With the Marvel and DC movies look set to dominate the box office next year - Marvel have Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange due for release - it is going to be interesting to see if Fox really can challenge their stranglehold on this genre of film.

It think X-Men: Apocalypse will be another huge smash - but we are going to have to wait and see how Fantastic Four is met by both critics and audiences.

Fantastic Four is released 6th August. X-Men: Apocalypse is released 19th May 2016.
