Captain America: Civil War

We may have six months to go until Civil War hits the big screen, but it is already one of the most anticipated films of 2016 - it could also be one of Marvel's biggest hits when it finally drops in April.

The first trailer for Civil War was finally released last week and the film shattered the trailer view record held by Avengers: Age of Ultron - which was viewed 34 million in the first twenty four hours.

While the Civil War trailer is setting new records for Marvel, it does rather pale against the 112 million views for Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, which was released earlier this year.

Captain America: Civil War will be the third solo film for the popular character and the first solo film since the critical and commercial success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier back in 2014.

The movie will see Anthony and Joe Russo return to the director's chair for their second consecutive Captain America film. They duo are set to go on to direct Avengers: Infinity War next year.

The Civil War cast list is brimming with A-list stars and great characters as Chris Evans is set to reprise the title role. Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, and Anthony Mackie will also be returning to the franchise as Black Widow, Winter Soldier, and Falcon.

However, there will be some big new additions as Robert Downey Jr, Jeremy Renner, Paul Bettany, and Elizabeth Olsen will be reprising their roles as Iron Man, Hawkeye, The Vision, and Scarlet Witch - they will all be stepping into the Captain America franchise for the first time. It will be the first time we have seen these characters since the success of Avengers: Age of Ultron earlier this year.

Could Civil War be the first Captain America film to break $1 billion? Winter Solider was a box office smash last year as it went on to take over $714 million worldwide.

So far, only three Marvel films have grossed over $1 billion; Avengers Assemble, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Iron Man 3.

Captain America: Civil War is released 29th April 2016.
