Carey Mulligan

Carey Mulligan has described her character of Daisy Buchanan as 'tricky'.

The actress is set to take on the role of Daisy in Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby.

And the Oscar nominated actress says that there were lot of elements to Daisy's character to get right.

Speaking to Total Film the actress said: "Daisy is kind of a tricky character, because she contradicts herself constantly, but she's also not very consistently laid out.

"She's eccentric, but seems to feel things passionately, but not necessarily for very long."

The movie sees Mulligan work with director Luhrmann for the first time as she makes her first big screen outing since Shame.

The Great Gatsby is set to open the Cannes Film Festival later this month while her next movie Inside Llewyn Davis is also set to feature.

Inside Llewyn Davis is the latest film from Joel and Ethan Coen and will compete for the Palme d'Or at the festival.

Hold On to Me is set to be her next project as she will team up with director James Marsh.

The Great Gatsby is released 16th May.
