Channing Tatum says it would hard to direct Magic Mike 2 and follow in the footsteps of Steven Soderbergh.

Tatum is set to reprise the title role in a second movie but it will be made without Soderbergh at the helm as the Oscar winner has walked away from directing.

But Tatum says if he does have a hand in the directing side of things he will not do it alone.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter the actor said: "Either [my producing partner] Reid Carolin and I will direct it together, or we'll have Greg Jacobs direct.

"He worked as a producer on the movie and has been Steven's right-hand man for almost 25 movies.

"It is hard for me and Reid to direct after one of the greatest directors of our time. It would be like having sex with your girlfriend while her porn-star ex-boyfriend is in the room watching you."

Earlier this week Tatum revealed that Magic Mike 2 would be more like a road trip movie this time around.

It was back in 2012 that Magic Mike hit the big screen to critical and commercial success.

As for Tatum he will be back on the big screen this summer as he teams up with Jamie Foxx for action flick White House Down - which is directed by Roland Emmerich.
