Chiwetel Ejiofor says that he was excited by the way that Marvel 'pushed the envelope' with their movies and that is what made him reach out to Kevin Feige about getting involved in the universe.

And we are going to see Ejiofor step into the Marvel world later this year as he is set to star in the already highly anticipated Doctor Strange.

The movie will see the Oscar nominated actor take on the role of Baron Mordo alongside fellow Brit Benedict Cumberbatch.

Speaking to Collider, the actor talked about what drew him to the Marvel films: "Well, I guess I have always been a big fan of Marvel films and I was just excited by the way they have been sort of pushing the envelope. I guess when I watched Guardians of The Galaxy I was like, 'This is really exceptional, what is happening here.' So I met with Kevin [Feige] and basically said, 'Listen, I'm excited to get involved so let me know what is going on.'

"And then Doctor Strange was what we started to talk about. Getting into that universe and getting into that kind of concept was so thrilling, and even then having these conversations of what was going to happen with it and what they were going to visually attempt was incredible to me."

Doctor Strange sees Ejiofor and Cumberbatch - who previously worked together on 12 Years A Slave - star alongside Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton, and Mads Mikkelsen. Scott Derrickson is in the director's chair.

This is the first Marvel film for Derrickson, who has brought us films such as Sinister and Deliver Us from Evil in recent years.

Ejiofor returns to the big screen this week with crime/drama Secret in Their Eyes, which sees him star alongside Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman.

Doctor Strange is released 28th October.
