The actor- who accidentally fatally shot 'The Crow' co-star Brandon Lee on the set of the 1994 film - passed away this week from undisclosed causes, at the age of 61.

Anthony Delon - Massee's co-star in the 2014 French TV series 'Interventions' - first announced the news on Instagram, writing "R.I.P. my friend Michael. You were 'five seconds away from a clean getaway' (sic)."

And Michael's agent later confirmed the news to Variety.

His 'Rizzoli & Isles' co-star Angie Harmon tweeted: "My heart is heavy to hear of his passing. He was IMMENSELY talented & had the kindest soul. I am privileged to have known him. #RIPMichaelM (sic)."

And Jon Cassar, an executive producer for '24', wrote: "Sad to hear of the passing of Michael Massee who played Ira Gaines, 24's first villain in season #1 RIP (sic)."

Michael's part as Funboy in 'The Crow' was only his second ever feature role but it was to end in tragedy.

On March 31, 1993, the crew improperly prepared a gun for a scene in which Funboy shoots Lee's character Eric Draven, accidentally creating a live round.

Massee fired the gun, shooting Lee in the stomach and the actor passed away in hospital later that day after unsuccessful surgery.

Speaking about the devastating tragedy, Michael - who reportedly never watched the movie - said: "I don't think you ever get over something like that."

He took a year off from acting but returned to take on roles in movies including 'Tales From The Hood', 'Seven', 'Lost Highway', 'Amistad', 'The Amazing Spider-Man' and 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'.

He also had parts on TV in 'Fringe', 'Supernatural', 'CSI', 'House', and 'Flash Forward'.

Michael is survived by his wife, Ellen Massee, and their two children.
