Daniel Day-Lewis says he feels lucky that he never has had to make back to back movies.

The actor returned the big screen at the weekend as he took on the role of Abraham Lincoln in Steven Spielberg's biopic Lincoln - a role he is tipped to pick up a third Best Actor Oscar for.

But he admits that he wouldn't want to work on back to back projects as he thinks it would 'destroy his enthusiasm'.

Speaking to The Sun the actor said: "Some actors work back to back because they have to, and I completely respect that.

"If financially I found my family needed me to do that then I would find some way of doing it. Thanks be to God I haven't been put in that position.

"I may be very uneasy - truth is I'd probably sooner go and try and find work in the construction crew than make films back to back.

"The reason is it would completely destroy my enthusiasm for that work."

Lincoln is the first role for the double Oscar winner since he starred in Nine back in 2009.

The film sees him star alongside Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones and Joseph Gordon Levitt and it has been enjoying both critical and box office success.

The movie has been nominated for a string of Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress and Best Actor.

Lincoln is out now.
