David O'Russell says he will not direct another war movie.

The director made Gulf War film Three Kings back in 1999 - he was at the Los Angeles Film Festival to kick off a special screening of the film.

And while that movie was a success O'Russell says he has no intention or desire to return to that genre.

Speaking to The Wrap the director said: "I don't think there's been a war in my lifetime that is worth a damn. They've all been stupid, and they just make a handful of people rich. And they've enriched our cinema and literature," he said.

"I will not go back to war. I will not go into the desert. I don't want to make a movie about guns. And I will not make a military movie without women, that's for sure."

Over the few years O'Russell has been on the receiving end of critical acclaim for his work on The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook; both of which were nominated for the Best Picture Oscar.

American Hustle is his latest project - a movie that sees him reunite with Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams and Christian Bale.
