David O, Russell has called the ten Bafta nominations for American Hustle 'mind blowing'.

American Hustle has been featuring heavily on the awards circuit in recent weeks, and that trend continued when the Bafta nominations were announced this morning.

The ten nominations included Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Christian Bale), Best Actress (Amy Adams), Best Supporting Actor (Bradley Cooper) and Best Supporting Actress (Jennifer Lawrence).

Speaking about the film's Bafta success, the director said: "Mind blowing. Humbled and beyond grateful to be recognised by BAFTA in this way.

"It means everything to have our actors and our craftspeople, who put their hearts into this picture, acknowledged."

Gravity lead the Bafta nominations with eleven nods, while American Hustle and 12 Years A Slave were second with ten.

American Hustle, Gravity and 12 Years A Slave will do battle for Best Picture with Captain Phillips and Philomena.

O. Russell has enjoyed huge success in recent years with The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook both also doing well during the awards season.

American Hustle is in the mix at the Golden Globes this weekend as all the actor and the director are up for gongs.

American Hustle is out now.
