Ewan McGregor in Jack The Giant Slayer

Ewan McGregor says it was the script that drew him to Jack The Giant Slayer.

The actor is back on the big screen this week for the adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk - which sees him team up with director Bryan Singer.

McGregor compared the tone of the script to How To Train Your Dragon and that is what pulled him in.

Speaking to Den of Geek the actor said: "Well, I liked the script very much, you know. At first, I was probably a little skeptical about Jack And The Beanstalk, but the script made me laugh!

"There’s a very good cartoon animation How To Train Your Dragon, and the script that I read for this reminded me of that somehow in its tone, in its flavour.

"And I like that film, I thought it was really good, so it was that."

McGregor takes on the role of sword-wielding knight Elmont in the movie alongside Nicholas Hoult and Stanley Tucci.

The movie has already topped the U.S. box office and looks set to enjoy similar success in the UK.

McGregor has already enjoyed success this year with The Impossible and he will be back with August: Osage County.

Jack The Giant Slayer is released 22nd March.
