Yates, who directed a string of Harry Potter films, is back in the director's chair for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which is released in the autumn.

The filmmaker has revealed that the script for the sequel has already been written and he hints that we are going to see the story go in a 'new direction.'

Speaking to EW about the film, Yates said: "We've seen the script for Part 2, for the second movie, which takes the story in a whole new direction - as you should, you don't want to repeat yourself.

"The second movie introduces new characters as she builds this part of the Harry Potter universe further. It's a very interesting development from where we start out. The work is pouring out of her."

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is based on the book by J.K. Rowling and the author has turned screenwriter to pen a script for the first time.

Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne is set to take on the central role of Newt Scamander as he steps into Rowling's world of magic for the first time.

Redmayne is joined on the cast list by Collin Farrell, Ron Perlman, Jon Voight, Katherine Waterston, Samantha Morton, Ezra Miller, and Carmen Ejogo.

As for Yates, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be the second of two Yates directed films in 2016; he is currently enjoying box office success with The Legend of Tarzan, which is based on the creation by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is released 18th November.
