Felicity Jones says hours with her piano coach trying to understand different aspects of playing the instrument for her new movie Breathe In.

Breathe In kicked off the Edinburgh Film Festival last night and follows a gifted young girl who goes to stay with a family in New York.

Jones character plays the piano throughout the film and she had to work hard to get ready for the part.

Speaking to the Press Association the actress said; "I had an amazing coach who taught me the basics and a lot of it was trying to understand the posture and the way of being if you're the pianist.

"I would do the more simple pieces and she did the much harder ones and it was a lot of her skill and a little bit of my skill.

"The main thing was understanding how important technique is, listening to a lot of people playing the same piece and understanding how much of themselves they bring to the piece."

Breathe In is directed by Drake Doremus and see Jones team up with Guy Pearce and Amy Ryan.

And Jones is an actress in high demand as she has completed work on True Story and The Invisible Woman and is currently working on The Amazing Spider Man 2.

Breathe In is released 19th July.
