Washington will reunite with Training Day filmmaker Antoine Fuqua for the first time since he triumphed at the Oscars with his performance in the film.
The Equalizer is loosely based on the 80's TV series and will see Washington take on the role of Robert McCall; a man who is seeking redemption for his dark deeds.
Columbia Pictures have released the very first image from the film ahead of the movie's released next year.
A fantastic cast has been assembled as Washington is joined by Chloe Moretz, Melissa Leo, Marton Csokas, Haley Bennett and Johnny Messner.
Training Day was released back in 2002 and saw Washington go on to claim the Best Actor Oscar for his role as Det. Alonzo Harris.
The Equalizer is released 10th October 2014.
